Max Teague Finishes 2nd in U15 XCO at Australian MTB Nationals

Mackay Cycles is incredibly proud of Max Teague after another outstanding performance at the 2026 GWM Mountain Bike National Championships in Mt Buller, Victoria.

After already winning the U15 Men’s XCC Australian National Title and being part of the winning Junior Team Relay, Max lined up again for the U15 Men’s XCO and delivered another huge ride to finish 2nd in Australia.

Strong Start, Big Effort

In ideal sunny conditions, Max got away to a strong start and set the pace early in the race. By the second lap he was locked in a battle for 1st and 2nd, with a clear gap back to the rest of the field.

On the third and final lap, the decisive move came. Max fought hard and gave everything he had but couldn’t quite go with the final attack. He kept pushing all the way to the line to secure an impressive 2nd place.

It was a tough finish to a hard three days of racing, but another incredible effort from one of Australia’s best young mountain bikers.

Elite-Level Climbing Effort

One of the standout parts of Max’s race was his effort on the long grassy climb near the end of each lap.

That kind of repeat effort is serious riding and a strong sign of what Max is capable of at national level.

Another National Podium

While Max was naturally disappointed to miss the XCO title and jersey, this result confirms what an exceptional championships he has had.

To finish the week with:

  • 🥇 1st — U15 Men XCC
  • 🥇 1st — Junior Team Relay
  • 🥈 2nd — U15 Men XCO

…is a remarkable national championship campaign and something to be very proud of.

We’re proud of the way Max raced all week — committed, tough and all-in every time he hit the track.

He may have just missed the XCO jersey, but to finish as the second fastest U15 XCO rider in Australia is an outstanding achievement and another sign of what’s ahead.

Congratulations Max on an incredible national championships.

Results like this don’t happen by accident — and we’re excited to keep following the journey.
